On December 15, 2012, ILDS held one of the most anticipated events of the year, Winterfest 2012. The ILDS staff had been planning the event since the beginning of the year. We held Winterfest 2011 at Route 46 in Orlando and were hoping to host our event there again. Unfortunately, Route 46 closed their doors earlier last year.
With very little time and a lot of effort and hard work from our staff and volunteers we were able to find the perfect location. We wanted to make Winterfest memorable and location was a big issue. Deciding on whether we wanted to stay local or once again venture out to Orlando was another dilemma. After countless phone calls, emails, and visits to different venues we decided to stay close to home.
Whenever we host an event is hard to know what to expect. Sometimes you have thousands of people confirmed and a hundred people show up or vice versa. Last year we planned the show form beginning to end. We increased our level of organization and worked with 5 Staff members and 25 Volunteers to ensure a successful event. There were a few hiccups here and there however, we couldn’t be any more thankful for the toys collected and cooperation from everyone.
Winterfest 2012 collected over 1,000 toys for the Toys for Tots foundation. We housed over 800 cars counting both show cars and spectators. We had amazing guest who were respectful to our staff and to our host. We learned many things from this event and will implement them to ensure a smooth, problem-free Winterfest 2013.
Planning this event wasn’t a walk in the park. We would like to thank Leading Edge Aviation, and the Tampa Executive Airport for being our gracious host. We would also like to thank Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, and everyone involved, I couldn’t have done this event by myself.
Our next event is Cars N Beaches IV which will be held in Miami. Followed by Winterfest 2013, which will be once again at the Tampa Executive Airport. ILDS plans of vending and attending plenty of events this year. Please stay tune to our website and social media to see where we’ll be next.
